Politicians are mostly depressive (un-impressive)
I really don't like politics. I think this is a normal feeling. I remember coming across this in a book of 20th century photos from Camus personal notebook:
First, he said he is not naive, climates change. He was from a state that x million years ago was under a glacier. But that climates change for all sorts of reasons. However, he was not arrogant enough to think that humans have much to do with that.
Then, he clarified that humans can damage the earth. (?What is he really trying to say?)
Finally, he said that ultimately humans are so ingenious that they will be continue to develop technology to deal with what the earth gives us (make lemonade kind of crap without saying it) ... clearly the focus (after saying we he was not arrogant. can any American politician ever be allowed to say this, ever?) was on how awesome we are at fixing the earth ?!!?
It felt like he was throwing two conflicting arguments against the consensus about climate change. It was incredibly sloppy, even for an off the cuff interview. Maybe this is what we require of politicians or maybe its only these kind of people who want this job. It did not make me happy, it made me very angry, but ultimately, not much I feel I can do. (Who do you vote for when you don't like politicians---or businessmen posing as "servants of the people" or politicians-posing as academics?)
And I feel the same when I hear any of them in speeches or the clips that appear on the news. They are not smart, they are not careful, they are not thoughtful. They engage in a kind of rainbow bright say everything every which way in hopes that we gloss over and respond with "Yes, master ... ."
Alright, rant over.
"Politics and the fate of mankind are formed by men without ideals and without greatness. Those who have greatness within them do not go in for politics." from his notebook in 1940.So nothing new. When you hear them speak, to me, doesn't matter whichever side they sit on, they sound dumb. Yesterday as I was on my 7 minute commute back from lunch I heard a republican senator on one of the NPR shows (I think Here and Now, not positive). He was asked about his views on climate change and it could not have been more sloppy. I can't find the show or who it was so I can't pull the exact quotes, but, unfortunately, I think its a pretty common line (not something he came up with).
